Plautus: the latin author in Viareggio

Plauto

On the 23rd of January 2018, the classes 3C/D and 3A went to the balneary city of Viareggio, in Tuscany, in the province of Lucca, to see the play ”Aulularia” of Plautus in the theatre Politeama, situated on the waterfront. They left at about 8.00 a.m. from the high school Zappa Fermi, and arrived at about 10,00 a.m. Once there each class was allowed a free hour to spend  for different activities, for example having breakfast, or simply enjoying the sea air and the landscape, walking near the seaside or the harbour located on the Tyrrenussea at the river mouth of the Burlamacca channel.

Later on, it was time to go and see Plautus play and so the students decided to enter the theatre to attend  ”Aulularia”, set in Athens. It was divided into five acts and mainly based on a misapprehension that transforms it in a commedy, thanks also to dialects as the roman dialect and others, in spite of the presence of drammatic elements.

When it ended, satisfied and entertained, it was lunch time and all the classes could decide how they wanted to eat: some decided to go on the beach to organise a picnic together, instead others prefered having lunch in restaurants or others places nearby.

In the afternoon, after taking some photos with the sea in the background, the most part of the students went towards the shops on the waterfront, to buy some souvenirs or only to do window shopping; instead others decided to promenade on the beach enjoying a delicious ice- cream, made by the typical and traditional ice-cream parlors of the city.

Unfortunately, at about 3 p.m. ,it was time to go back home and so the classes, saddened because the schooltrip was so brief, but at the same time happy to have spent together a different day from the others, they left Viareggio and arrived at home at about 4.30 p.m.
